The overarching pedagogy of this course is based on an ecological dynamics framework, where we use a constraints-led approach to create an environment that beginners can learn from. What you can expect from the SG2 Beginner’s Course compared to other beginner’s courses, is that there will generally be less of us talking, and more of you doing. 

A key difference between our Beginner’s Course and Foundations classes, is that our recurring 6-week course runs on a structured syllabus to reap the benefits of scaffolded learning. Through constant practice, you’ll learn new ways of using your body to immobilise, strangle, and break your opponents, and gain a robust foundation to further your grappling education with our other classes and courses. 

If you’re a complete beginner or have less than 6-months training experience, then the Beginner’s Course is a great way to start your Jiu-Jitsu journey with us. It’s a safer and more inclusive environment for beginners, and the course membership also grants you unlimited access to our other classes.

SCHEDULE

Singapore Submission Grappling features more than 120 Adult and 60 Kids Classes per month along with Kids BJJ Camps  during Summer & Winter school breaks and frequent Seminars taught by some of the world’s greatest grapplers.

PROGRAMS & COURSES

Submission Grappling / No Gi BJJ

No-Gi/Submission grappling is a dynamic form of martial art emphasising control without the use of a traditional uniform or gi. No-Gi teaches practitioners grappling skills that seamlessly translate into real-life situations, from self defence to the mixed martial arts arena. All of our No-Gi classes are open to all levels - we believe that a mature grappler should work on deepening their fundamentals just as much as a beginner should be exposed to advanced techniques.

Our 6 black belt instructors and 2 junior instructor each have very original and unique grappling styles, which is something we strive to develop for our members. We do that by adopting a variety of teaching styles, from more traditional methods to ecological approaches. Ultimately, if it works for the members, then it’s the right way. 

We offer the most No Gi classes of any academy in Singapore, and all classes are available for drop-ins. Do note that guests must register and sign up for class at our front desk.

Wrestling

Our wrestling classes acts as a supplement to our No-Gi program, and we focus on Jiu-Jitsu-specific wrestling techniques that are effective for our members in their stand-up game.

Our wrestling coach, Ali, is an experienced wrestler from Iran, and is well-versed in folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling. Ali also coaches the Singapore National Wrestling Team, and corners our members when they go for wrestling competitions.

Joint Health & Mobility

There are many factors involved in injury prevention for jiu-jitsu and sports in general, but getting yourself equipped with stronger joints, is probably the best thing you can do for your body, both in grappling and in life. 

Having strong joints means having a larger usable range of movement, and we aim to improve your spine, hip, and shoulder mobility through controlled joint articulation exercises in our classes. 

All of our Joint Health Mobility Trainers are Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®️)-certified.

Corporate Wellness Programs

There are very few activities in the world that can so directly impact your workforces overall experience of physical & mental wellbeing as Submission Grappling.

Referred to as the "Gentle Art" due to the ability to subdue an opponent without inflicting harm, Submission Grappling is the art where David beats Goliath because in grappling size is not the deciding factor.

But knowing Grappling isn't just about having a physical superpower, its about having a measured response to conflict instead of reacting to it. It helps people & organisations understand that problems are also opportunities. That we need to appreciate the counter-intuitive outcomes of our plans in business (and life) and take them into account. In short, BJJ builds, and is of itself, a state of Mindfulness.
